Alumna of the Year 2018

Pamela Stacy Delord of the Class of 1963, a member of the first graduating class, has been named Alumna of the Year of Cabrini High School for 2018. This award is given annually to an outstanding alumna who has exemplified the teachings of Mother Cabrini and has shown her dedication to Christianity through her interaction with her family, the Cabrini community, and the general community.

In making the announcement, school president Jack Truxillo said, “Pam embodies the sisterhood of Cabrini Crescents through the years. Her Cabrini journey has lead her from Cabrini High School’s first years and continues through today. Pam truly lives Cabrini High School’s mantra of ‘Respect, Excellence, and Service.’”

When told the news by Truxillo, Delord said, “I was totally surprised and felt extremely grateful. I have always felt close to Mother Cabrini but this honor makes me feel even closer to Cabrini High School and Mother Cabrini.”

“Whatever is asked of others is first done by self.” This is the quote you will find next to Delord’s picture in her senior yearbook, a quote she has lived by through her 55 years of dedication to her alma mater. Sister Aloysius Almerico, MSC, the founding principal of Cabrini, personally asked Delord to make sure she “kept the girls together.” With those words, Delord has seen to it that her classmates have stayed in contact for 55 years and also ensured Cabrini alumnae have had a dynamic and prosperous alumnae base as one of the founding members of Cabrini’s Alumnae Association.

Delord was an active student as a Crescent. As the first Student Body President of Cabrini High School, Delord lead and played an enormous role in the implementation of many of Cabrini’s treasured traditions, such as the spring musical, Cabrini’s yearbook the L’Etincelle, and the Cabrini Girl’s Guide, which later became the Cabrini Student Handbook. In addition, DeLord was instrumental in the creation of most of Cabrini’s symbols and ceremonies which are still practiced today.

After graduating from Cabrini in 1963, Delord attended Soule' Business College. Post-graduation she worked as a secretary for three years at the Times-Picayune. After she was married and had children, Delord took time off of work to focus on her family. Once her children were in school, she returned to work full-time as a claims analyst for ACE Insurance.

In addition to her volunteer work at Cabrini, Delord also belongs to St. Vincent Infant and Maternity Guild, where, through Catholic Charities, she helps in the raising of funds for unmarried mothers and their children.

Elena B. Valenti, one of Delord’s classmates said, “Pam Stacy Delord is a living example and role model for Cabrini High School’s teachings. She is someone who exemplifies the teachings of Mother Cabrini.”

Delord will be honored among her Cabrini peers at the Alumna of the Year Luncheon on April 7 held at Metairie Country Club.
