Seven Cabrini student-athletes from the Class of 2020 signed their National Letter of Intent on July 21, 2020 to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Cabrini High School normally holds an annual celebratory college signing ceremony in April. However, due to COVID-19 and the restrictions of Phase 2, the traditional ceremony featuring all the seniors and their families in the same location at the same time could not take place.

"I made a promise to our seniors that we would have our annual celebratory college signing ceremony before they reported to their respective colleges and universities,” said Cabrini Athletic Director Kirk Maronge. “I felt like we owed it to our student-athletes and their families to give them the recognition they deserve for working so hard to put themselves in this position. We just had to be creative to make it happen.”

To follow Phase 2 restrictions, each of the seven signees were scheduled at 15-minute intervals to come to school to celebrate and were limited on the number of guests they could invite for their time slot. Each college signee received a custom signing poster that included their name, class year, their photo, the name of their college or university, and their new mascot. They also each received a personalized cake to take home to share with their family and friends, and had an opportunity to take photos in front of the Cabrini backdrop.

“Being the Athletic Director at Cabrini, it’s a blessing to have the opportunity to witness these young girls arrive on campus as pre-freshmen or freshmen and watch them grow academically, spiritually, emotionally, and competitively over a four or five year period,” Maronge added. “On a night like tonight where we have seven seniors signing to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level, it brings me great joy to witness the fruition of the hard work and dedication that these young women have sacrificed and invested into their respective sports. I am so proud of these young women, and I am proud to call them Cabrini Crescents.”
