The Cabrini High School Volleyball team has earned the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2018-2019 season. Out of 1,127 teams nationwide, Cabrini is one of only 444 girls high school teams awarded.
“This award represents what coaching is all about,” said Kasey Laird Dennies ’08, Cabrini’s Head Volleyball Coach. “In our program we stress excellence both on and off the court. This award is a direct reflection of the student athletes’ commitment to achieving excellence in all that they do.”
This award, which was initiated during the 1992-1993 academic year, honors high school and collegiate volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the award’s inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 1,126. Girls high schools led the categories with 444 recipients, an increase of 86 over last year.
“I am beyond proud of this team for their hard work both on and off the court. To be able to be one of the best teams in the State of Louisiana and still achieve academic excellence reflects the dedication and determination these young women have to becoming the best versions of themselves each and every day,” added Dennies.
Cabrini’s Volleyball Team were 2018 7-II Undefeated District Champions and the LHSAA Division II State Runner-Ups.
