In the spring of her sophomore year, Lori Launey, Class of 2018, approached Athletic Director Kirk A. Maronge about starting a Golf team at Cabrini High School. After consideration, research, and the approval of the school Principal Yvonne L. Hrapmann, Cabrini High School added the sport of Golf with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association as a Division I Golf program.
As the founding member of the team, Lori helped design the Cabrini Golf uniform and developed a practice regimen. After a season of hard work and dedication, Lori qualified for the LHSAA State Golf Tournament as the third overall individual golfer in Division I. Lori was also recognized by The First Tee of New Orleans by being selected to be a credentialed course reporter at the Zurich Classic held at TPC. Lori was interviewed live on ESPN radio and on the Golf Network. Her news articles were published by The First Tee nationally. Lori’s work ethic and character were recognized when she earned one of the coveted First Tee core value awards for “Respect” at a First Tee of New Orleans annual ceremony.
Lori’s leadership qualities and accomplishments on the golf course helped earn Cabrini a spot in the State Golf Championship in Lafayette, Louisiana in its first year of golf competition. This is a true testament to how one student can make a huge impact on the Cabrini family.
