Marisa Scarlata ‘19 and Kennedi White ’19 placed in the top five in the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation’s 18 in ’18, an arts competition showcasing the creative talents of high school juniors and their special connection to the culture of New Orleans. The competition honors the Tricentennial of the City of New Orleans.
Marisa received 2nd Place for her painting “Currents of My Heritage.” With this honor, Marisa received a $1,500 cash award and Cabrini received $15,000. Kennedi received 4th Place for her video “On the Town” and received a $900 cash award, with Cabrini receiving $9,000.
Along with Marisa and Kennedi, Kathryn Mipro ’19 was named as a finalist in the competition for her essay “From Boxhorn to Mipro.” Marisa, Kennedi, and Kathryn were among 18 finalists selected in the summer by a panel of seven judges who reviewed original essays, graphic arts, poems and videos submitted by 47 students from 21 high schools in Orleans Parish.
Cabrini High School was the only school represented with a finalist in each category of competition.
Our students were also featured in the 18 in ‘18 documentary, a film produced by high school senior Kelly Yu with assistance from internationally renowned artist and design consultant Xiao Xiao, that was debuted at the award presentation and the opening of the Taylor Foundation Education Center on October 18.
